Open access won the argument a long time ago, and then the argument moved. It is no longer really about whether research should be free to read; it is about the layers underneath — who indexes it, who is allowed to mine it, who gets billed when the catalogue itself starts metering access.
A song does not settle any of that. But it says out loud what the tool assumes quietly: that findings paid for by everyone belong to everyone, and that a wall around them is a choice somebody made rather than a fact of nature.
